Why does everyone keep saying im [24F] too good for him [28M]?

So its [M28] and me [F24].

So basically i have been with someone who does not for the life of him at all or ever for a matter of fact acknowledge me, constantly disrespects me and my family and doesn’t respect me nor trusts me even tho i have devoted all my relationship into helping him set up his career and been utterly faithful and loyal and i know it seems horrible but i am emotionally too attached to leave yet.

But all of my friends and family, even a few of his family members say that i am too good for him not just emotionally but physically and otherwise as well. So i just want to know is this actually a real thing that girls oftentimes settle for men less deserving of them???? If so, why is it a thing….
