Visiting someone's birthday after being suicidal?
Dear subscribers, I have a situation, where I'm not certain what would be the best to do, so I'd like to seek your advice. I am suspected of BPD, and I had suicidal ideations 5 days ago, because I haven't passed lab practice, cause they made fucked up rule that we pass the practice only when we submit all the protocols on the day where we still work, and I was nervous and underestimated my time and didn't correct every mistake in time. I talked about my suicidal thoughts to my therapist, and she called emergency for me, and I agreed to stay in hospital overnight. Now I am out, and I am trying to recover before my semester begins in March. And today a girl from my university invited me on her birthday party on Saturday. I don't know her much yet, but she is very nice, and I feel like I could trust her. And she also invited me to the bar, where she works, at the day when I didn't passed the practice, cause we did it at the same time. So we spent some time together then, and it was very fun. To her invitation, I told her that I'd be glad to go, but I'm not certain, cause my mental health is weak right now, and I'll let her know on that day. I didn't specify, what exact mental problems I am having. Now I'm not sure, if I would recover to that time point, whether I should go, because she will certainly ask, whether I'm alright or what's exactly my problem, and I would talk about my suicidal ideations. I could definitely trust her, so maybe I would tell her about it in a more neutral setting. But if it's going to be on her birthday, I would create extra worry for her and ruin her mood with these news, and I don't want that. And if Id want not to tell her then and tell her later, I don't know how to frame it, when she asks. And to avoid this topic entirely would be also hard for me, because at the moment I even subconsciously seek someone who I can talk about it with, cause it still bothers me. What would be your strategy in this case?
