AITAH for fighting my aunts, leaving the room and not talking with my mother?
What happened so far in short: My mother is a narcissist who raised me (22f) and my siblings and me alone because my father was busy working. We'd get a meal, would get bathed, have everything for school and (execpt for my brother) wouldn't get beaten. Every school day would start with me crying till 5th grade. Nearly everyday I'd cry because my mother yelled at me. Nearly everytime she showered us she'd turn the water extra hot to let her anger out - you get the picture I hope
Last year everything came to a head, I stopped speaking to my mother and father, I talked after nearly 3 months of not speaking to my mother, everything out and for two months my mother showed new sides of her (positive sides). Everything well here.
Important to know: around 5 years ago my mother bought me a cat because I always wanted one (my first stuffed animal was a cat and so on) This cat has grown on me more than anyone did. I talk to her as if she is my toddler atp.
The reason I don't talk to my father isn't the lack of fatherhood but because he once let his anger out on her.
Around 2-3 weeks ago my cat reacted extremely to him to which I went to my mother and asked my mother if she knows anything or can ask him if he again did something. I shouldn't have asked. Genuinely. That was wrong. My mother immediately got angry and threatened me with giving her away. I got angry too and said some stuff. Next day, when we were both calmer I admitted I was wrong and told her I am sorry. I also asked her if she realizes threatening me was wrong. She didn't think it was. A bit forth and back and she told me I care too much about my cat and put her above my family (which is right and I don't see it as wrong) Due to what happened before when we fought I told my older Brother. He then fought with her too.
Now: My two aunts came (i have a whole bunch of them...) and they talked to us. Their points/ solutions
- ignore what happened | for our younger sister who is now suffering
- out mother isn't the type of person who can apologize
- I am too extreme with my cat
- I am too stubborn because I dont see their point of view
- my mother bought me that cat so i should shut up
- I shouldn't 'pump my brother up against my mother' (translated that in a literal way)
I also left after a while because I got too fed up with them so they also told me that I am not even trying.
Our arguments/explanations
ignoring: I did that the past 20 something years... How did it help?
stubborn: I get it but at the same time they repeat everything we answered already
not the type to apologize: well every action has a reaction. If one isn't capable of keeping relationships alive then one shouldn't have children
too extreme: that cat was the friend I always wished for. That cat didn't look at me with hatred, she never yelled, she never said any hateful thing or shamed me in any way. She is a being under my care that isnt even capable of understanding how to push things aside just so she can sit without being disturbed and my father tried to harm her? Yeah I get I could temper my reactions which I am doing already as good as I can and I will keep working on it
my brother: he will find out sooner or later and due to past experiences I know he should simply know what happened. I didnt pump it up. Told him everything as it happened and he even scolded me
If there are any questions pls ask because I feel like I am slowly loosing it. I keep crying out of nowhere and I just wanna move out... but I can't
