In Secret of Evermore how exactly do you get past Greenhouse?

Even though I turn off the greenhouse light, there is one plant that still knocks out in one hit. It seems that the monster still can move even with lights off. What is the best way to get past easily? Turning off light helps but how cam you avoid geting killed when one still can move?
