question about ending

i've been scrolling through multiple resi subreddits and apparently there are two endings, a bad and good one. which one of those endings are canon? does leon die in the bad one? i genuinely can't do that, he's been my favourite fictional character ever since i played the OG re4 as a kid. he needs to live :,)
