Thinking of taking my toddler to the local pool, any tips?

So I got a little boy who is almost 2 years old at this point. He is very shy and unfortunately not played with many other kids. He got one slightly older friend (child of my friends). I’ve recently started to wonder if it’s a good thing to take him out to the local pool now and then? Not just to get out, but as a chance to see other kids and maybe make some new friends in the long term.

I got about 0 experiences with taking toddlers swimming though. My local pool does “family swim” a few times a week and kinda want to try it.

But as I got no idea kinda what I need, how it normally works etc I thought I could ask here. Does anyone have experience taking their small one? Goods and bad would be nice to hear.
