My dad spent my VA benefits meant for college.. what can I do?

I’m in a tough spot and could really use advice. I’m a dependent of a veteran with 100% disability. I qualify for Chapter 33 (Post-9/11 GI Bill) and Chapter 35 (DEA) for college. The problem is, my dad has been taking my education money and spending it on himself and his side chick instead of letting it go toward my tuition. I only recently found out from my moms meeting with her divorce lawyer.

I’m 19, so I think the VA can pay benefits directly to me instead of him, but I don’t know how to get the money back that he already spent, how to stop him from controlling my benefits going forward, and if I need legal action to recover the funds.

Has anyone been through this or know how to navigate VA benefits abuse by a parent? Any advice or steps I should take would be greatly appreciated.
