Anyone with mental illness find help with this game?
Hi all, I just wanted to ask if anyone else in the community here struggles with mental illness, and can relate to both Andreas and Simon, and maybe some of what I'm going to talk about here.
I was diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder with Psychotic Symptoms a few years back, after largely being ignored by doctors and psychiatrists for many years. I thought I might have autism, or be schizophrenic, or drug addled, or something else entirely. If I was even human at all. I finally got the help and recognition I needed when I was involuntarily placed in a psych ward, hallucinating a demon as my mother in an empty chair in the room with a new psychiatrist. Being in that place, around other "crazy" people, made me feel so seen. I felt such a profound level of empathy towards all these otherwise discarded, broken human beings. It was life changing for me in the most positive way, and ever since then I have struggled less with depression, finally being able to see myself as an ordinary human being, perhaps just placed in and raised under stressful or extraordinary circumstances.
I've also been really emotionally attached to games like Cry of Fear, Afraid of Monsters, and Silent Hill. These games, and more importantly the emotions of the characters in them, live in me subconsciously, and every time I play or think about them, it brings me a sense of peace, and belonging. Like coming home, despite the obviously dark and traumatic imagery in them. Seeing as this is a fan page to Cry of Fear, it made sense to me to ask if there is anyone else out there that gets what I'm talking about. To see how many broken people can still find belonging and purpose in life, despite it all.
