What might it be that I am experiencing?
Hi there,
I am a 20F person who had a very weird experience during a volunteering job at a hospital for my studies in med school. I felt very nauseous, then I sat down and my eyes started blinking and I couldn't stop. I also couldn't sit anymore. I felt like I was falling asleep, had slurred speech, but was able to wake up and continue the blinking. This stopped after a few minutes and a nap. Had a hypertensive crisis paired with tachycardia. So that's that. This kind of attack happened twice that same evening. That was in September of last year. Since then, I had various symptoms every day. Sometimes my head just feels extremely heavy, I am walking extremely slow or like I am drunk because I cantt really concentrate or think straight thoughts. When I go by bus or get driven in a car it feels like a weighted blanket gets put on me and I feel extremely tired, so tired that I am unable to stay awake. This also happens in lessons in med school that are particularly boring.
Sometimes, when I am frightened or scared by someone suddenly talking to me, I feel like my head or whole body gets droopy, I can't keep my eyes open then, but I am fully conscious. I also feel like the times with the extreme sleepiness where I collapse on the street I am conscious to some extent. I just can't react to what is going on outside, everything feels extremely heavy then.
I also have had more frequent hallucinations at night like hearing things or feeling pressure on my mattress where my cat usually sits but there is nothing.
Weirdly, even though there are the episodes of the very tired hours, in between those hours I feel fine, although still a bit tired, but like...normal tired? This is also a thing I am still confused about.
This had lead me to believe it might be some form of narcolepsy, although I am still a bit confused.
I don't know if this sounds like fitting, but the blinking episodes still persist. Sometimes I just sit there, mostly conscious, but my eyes are heavily blinking and my eyes are rolling back, sometimes my face muscles also try to support the blinking by contracting too. I don't know what this might be.
Things like epilepsy, anything cardiovascular or psychiatric Reasons are already dismissed, the sleep study is in two weeks. I am just still confused about the last described symptom, and I wanted to ask since you guys might be more helpful than my GP just saying "eh it's just stress" and dismissing it.
Thanks for taking your time reading this :))
