Moving to the U.S. from Spain — where do Americans check reliable crime statistics by city?

Hi everyone,

I'm from Spain and I'm considering moving to the United States for a year or two to experience life there and see what the “American Dream” is like.

One of the things I'm trying to research is safety. I’ve noticed that different websites rank U.S. cities very differently — some say a city is very safe, while others describe it as quite dangerous.

For those of you who live in the U.S., what sources do you personally consider reliable for crime statistics by city? Are there any official or widely trusted databases you would recommend?

I’m not looking for sensationalist rankings, just accurate data to get a realistic picture.

Thank you!
