upper cervical ICA pseudoaneurysm

Physician Responded

Hi! I’m a 33F, no medications, generally healthy. Only abnormal labs are vitamin D being low which has since resolved and slightly high cholesterol, which has also gotten better.

I had never had a migraine until I had my 3rd bay, four years ago. I had a few over the course of a year so my doctor ordered an MRI. It was normal. Since then, I have maybe had 2-3 in the past three years.

Fast forward to a month ago- I have had 4 migraines within a month and when the first one happened I also had pulsatile tinnitus. My doctor ordered

An ultrasound of the carotid which was fine. Only thing of note:

“Peak velocity right ICA 118cm/s and left 143cm/s”

I also got an MRA of the carotids and the impression was “left cervical upper ICA pseudoaneurysm “ and not sure if this matters but it says 12mm in cranialcaudal length and measures 8mm in total axial caliber compared to 4mm for normal segment.

I received these results yesterday and was told to expect a call from vascular surgery as soon as possible. Well today I heard nothing so I called and they said they would call me tomorrow.

The nurse for my primary called because I wanted to see if it was okay for me to go to work or if I should be avoiding anything and she said no that my primary isn’t worried and thinks I could have been born with it it. I can’t help but feel that’s not likely, especially with sudden increase in symptoms.

Everything online says I will likely need surgery- wondering if google is being dramatic or should I mentally prepare for this being the outcome?
