We noticed about a quarter sized lump on teddy’s lower abdomen yesterday, took her to the vet today and she confirmed it’s a mammary tumor.

Teddy is a year and few months old and weighed today at 247g. We decided to pursue with the surgery. I’ll be calling the vet tomorrow to see what the next steps are.

A couple questions I had for you guys are, are we doing the right thing? Before the vet visit we’d discussed that we’d also want to spay her as she’d already be under anesthesia, but the vet has stated that spaying after 6 months won’t have much of a benefit against future growths—is that true? Should we still spay her given that?

Another option she offered was to let it grow until it actually causes discomfort, after which we would euthanize her (assuming I understood that correctly). I assume because there’s a real risk of her passing during surgery and that’s one way we could spend whatever time we have left with her instead of risking losing her. But this is not something we’d be interested in unless advised for whatever reason.

In the case we do also spay her, which the vet has confirmed is an option, would that add to the risk? I always forget to ask those questions smh

I guess I’m just hoping to get some feedback on what would be the best way to go about our situation, hopefully from someone that have gone through a similar experience.

Thanks guys
