wtf is up with matriarch raids?

Me and my duo were trying to do some matriarch raids to get stash value, and we kept getting attacked by multiple teams of rats. Nobody was even fighting the matriarch, everyone was just PVPing. It was weird because both me and my duo have really peaceful lobbies. We basically never attack anybody and only shoot in defense.
