Advice for when I move out?

I’m 19 about to have a late start with my freshman year in college in June and I would like some advice. My parents have been somewhat helpful with “living alone” advice and they don’t voluntarily give advice but I also don’t know what questions to ask. I want to be prepared because I desperately want to live alone but I know that may take a few years after college. Is saving up for a house the better first option or is renting an apartment a better first option? I’m open to any random advice from people who have lived alone for a while. I don’t know if it’s important but I would like to remain single with no kids and just live with my cats lol.
