Why do parents so quickly forget what it's like being a child?

TLDR at the bottom

In order to become an adult we ALL had to go through living as a child. In general most children grow up with their parent(s) being an authority figure who is on charge of their entire lifestyle. It just confuses me how some parents cannot fathom why their teenager may want some space after school, a 9 year old girls asks about buying makeup, a smaller child wants to go their friends birthday party because everyone else is.

I guess I'm referring to how some parents refuse to acknowledge their lack of sympathy for their kid. You do not have to allow your child to do everything, but the way some parents act it's as if they cannot imagine the motive or reason or behaving/thinking a certain way.

If little timmy dreads going to his tennis lessons every week and wants to stay home or play with friends. Why lecture him about how one day 20 years from now he may have the chance of being in the olympics. The 7 year old isn't going to care about that. I was also 7 and I remember I didn't care about my life 20 years from then and building habits to put me in a better position. It's so obvious to me that it would be way more beneficial just talking to the child about what does interest them. Find out how you can make it exciting for them. If you want them to stay active and be healthy find out what activities they may enjoy.

Just because you like tennis doesn't mean you can force the kid to like it. If you truly cared about the child being active then it wouldn't matter how you can get them active and not force a hobby. I feel as if everyone at some point in their life was forced to do something which made them hate it even more. There's certain chores I absolutely hate (like ironing) because I was always forced. But I genuinely don't mind vacuuming.

This has kind of gotten long, I feel like I combined a few different topics but I hope someone understands what I'm getting at. I have no one to talk to about this irl.

TLDR ; We were all kids once, so why try to impose adult "logic" or standards on them. Do they not remember how it felt when they were younger and had no autonomy over their lives. Why not use your experience as a former child to empathize and create a less toxic situation.
