Anyone else dealing with a patriarchal family? Ugh.
Not my family but my kids other side. The whole family bows down to the dad/grandpa. He can do no wrong. He controls the money, he gets final say, he gets served first. He walks around loudly disrespecting his wife, he calls her names, everyone laughs. They both work full time, but he’s never cooked a meal or washed a dish. He’s never changed a diaper for his kids or mine (his grandkids). The second that grandma sees my kids she needs them to think of him first. If they don’t ask for him, she makes sure to bring him up before even saying hi to them. She never lets herself be first.
It’s so god damn annoying. We barely go there but the odd time we do, I absolutely hate what’s being shown to my kids as their “normal”.
What they do is none of my business but this man has never been respectful and I’m worried it’ll pass onto my kids. I have a boy among many many sisters. They favorite him, they only ever want him to visit. They never ask for my girls because “they cry”
