How important is the lion?

I see almost every wrath of the rock list running lion and not running him is making me super paranoid, right now i have 2 plasma inceptor squads and a jpi unit in his place and i just wonder if hes pretty necessary to find room for, when ive played him he seems to need to hide for to long and not do a ton to be worth the 300 pts but maybe its just user error
