Change oil and filter or just filter

2014 Sorento with the oil guzzling 2.4 GDI. Here’s the deal….it has 184k on the original engine but it’s guzzling a quart of oil every 500 miles. Starts and runs and goes down the road just fine.I’m wondering if I change just the filter every 4000 miles and don’t bother with draining the oil. I’m replacing 8 quarts in 4000 miles so that’s more than an oil change would drain. I feel confident it’s just worn rings as I’ve tried every carbon removal method on the planet
