Beyond the question of why Dipper and Mabel didn't encounter their past selves, near the end of the episode, Mabel gets sad about losing her pet pig and keeps banging her head against a totem pole. The question is... how does Mabel know that Dipper corrected the timeline?

In each time-traveling adventure, they held hands and traveled to the past together. When Mabel started banging her head against the totem pole, Dipper traveled alone for one day into the future, then for a week, then for a month, before returning to the past and correcting the timeline so Mabel could have her pet pig.

But... how does Mabel know that Dipper did that?

To begin with, it means that Mabel, fully conscious, basically stayed behind, banging her head against the totem pole to make Dipper feel bad. But as I said, if Mabel didn't travel to the past with Dipper on those three trips, and Dipper didn't take the "sad" Mabel back to his timeline, how does Mabel know that Dipper sacrificed his perfect day at the fair to let her stay with Waddles?

Shouldn't that create a timeline where Dipper disappeared and Mabel was left eternally banging her head against the totem pole?

I'm not an expert on time travel, and this is really the only question I have. Or maybe Dipper and Mabel, as "time machine users," somehow had residual memories of their own time travels.

I have several questions about this episode....
