Kurapika’s Talent
Okay, what follows is my own interpretation of what we’ve seen in the manga. I’ll start by saying that Kurapika’s talent is enormous—you probably agree with me—but how enormous? Even greater than Chrollo’s.
My analysis is based on Morena’s explanation about Specialization. There, we’re told that Specialization doesn’t really have a weakness, and that it doesn’t have the limitations that, for example, Transmutation would have when it comes to learning or using another category. Previously, it was believed that Emperor Time granted Kurapika 100% proficiency and efficiency in all categories. However, with Morena’s explanation, we understand that a natural Specialist already obtains that. In other words, when Kurapika’s eyes turn scarlet, he is already a Specialist—meaning his learning capacity, power, and efficiency across the six categories are at 100%. There would be no need to trade his lifespan for that. So why does he do it?
Here is my interpretation: the only explanation I can find is that Emperor Time makes all categories equal to Conjuration.
In other words, let’s suppose Kurapika has level 10 in Conjuration and level 8 in Transmutation. When his eyes turn scarlet, he becomes a Specialist and can use level 8 Transmutation at full power, as if it were level 8 Conjuration—however, it is still level 8. So Kurapika devised Emperor Time, making that level 8 Transmutation rise to level 10. This would mean Kurapika only needs to focus on raising Conjuration.
And why do I say his talent is enormous? Because in less than six months he managed to raise his Conjuration to nearly the same level that Uvogin has in Enhancement. When Kurapika used Enhancement against Uvogin, he was able to withstand his 20% and 50% blows without issue, and for Uvogin to surpass him, he had to use Hatsu. We don’t know what would have happened if he had simply struck using Enhancement alone.
So, can you understand the absurd level of Kurapika’s talent?!
If my interpretation is wrong, feel free to say so in the comments. Thank you.
