Question for the experts

i have this problem where if i hold my shift key for too long and let go it delays. for example i press shift to run ingame but because i pressed it for too long and when i let go my character still runs depending on how long i pressed the laptop. how do i fix this? its getting really annoying especially in stamina based games where if i lose too much stamina i will lose
