Speaking on 25 February 2026 after presiding over a press conference at the new Ban Lat District Office, Police Lieutenant Ronnachot Chalanukroh said the 2026 Annual Ox Cart Racing Competition and Ban Lat 109th Anniversary festival is intended to preserve local traditions while promoting tourism and generating income for the community.

The event will take place from 27–31 March 2026 at the new Ban Lat District Office in Tham Rong subdistrict, Ban Lat district, Phetchaburi.

# Ban Lat ox cart racing a century old tradition

The Ban Lat ox cart racing festival is one of the province’s longstanding traditional events. It reflects the district’s agricultural roots, where many residents are involved in rice farming, crop cultivation, palm sugar production and cattle raising.

The governor said Ban Lat is known for its strong local identity, including traditional Thai-style houses, distinctive cuisine such as palm curry and gaeng lok, and its unique local dialect.

This year’s program will feature speed competitions involving traditional ox carts, miniature ox cart displays, ploughing cart demonstrations and cattle track races. There will also be a beauty contest for ploughing oxen and a range of traditional cattle-related games.

Other activities include palm tree climbing competitions, palm fruit eating contests, palm cluster competitions, a bare-hand pig catching contest and a demonstration of traditional cattle wrestling. Visitors can also view exhibitions showcasing Ban Lat’s products and way of life, alongside a cultural zone highlighting local traditions and wisdom.
