Management BS in the corporate world that I can’t stand
Context:
I was assigned to foot financial statements by a manager that didn’t like me. I was new at the time and had never footed financial statements before, so she assigned one of my co-workers to train me real quick. My co-worker showed me in excel what to do and how to do it. (You basically just add up all of the columns to make sure everything matches what’s on the pre-issued financial statements and take note of any rounding issues). After my co-worker showed me what to do, I started working on the statements I was assigned by the manager. Literally less than 10 minutes later, she asked me what my progress was and I said that I was almost done. Then she said real loud “they’re not done yet?” And for some reason she looked at my co-worker who trained me and not me directly, even though she assigned me to do them. I then re-iterated that I was almost done and that they’d be done in like 10-15 minutes. She then just said, “okay thanks”.
Another instance of this happened with another manager. I was assigned to foot her financial statements as well. She asked if I knew how to do that and I said yes. I then got into the client file and stated footing the financials for that client in excel. This manager walks out of her office and walks up to my desk just to check up on my progress and she was confused as to why I was doing it the way I was doing it (in excel). I explained to her that that’s how *insert co-worker name* taught me how to do it. She then got a little pissy at ME for saying that that’s inefficient and that they have a separate software within excel that does all of the calculating for us.
How to do it.
