I built a free website to read the complete Mahabharata in English — 146 episodes with character guides
Namaste everyone. I've been working on something I'm really proud of and wanted to share it with this community.
I took K.M. Ganguli's complete English translation of the Mahabharata (1883-1896) and turned it into a modern reading experience at projectmahabharata.com
The problem I was trying to solve: Ganguli's translation is incredible, but the original text is dense Victorian English that's really hard to read on a screen. So I broke it into 146 episodes, each about 15-20 minutes long.
What it includes:
- 146 serialized episodes covering Adi Parva and Sabha Parva so far
- 160 characters tracked with aliases, factions, and relationships — so when the text says "Dhananjaya" you can tap and instantly see that's Arjuna
- "Previously on" recaps so you can pick up where you left off
- Annotations for archaic words
- Dark mode for late night reading
- Completely free, no ads, no sign-up
I built this because I believe the Mahabharata deserves a reading experience as good as the story itself. Would love to hear what this community thinks — especially if you spot anything that could be improved.
