Recovering from a cult-like parish

I used to be a reader and subdeacon (not ordained, but trained and functioned as them liturgically) at a ROCOR parish in the eastern american diocese. I have been trying to recover from the cult-like atmosphere I experienced there. I didn't apostatize but I have been struggling with going back to my heritage faith of Judaism ever since my experience at this particular parish I left. I converted as an adult, and eventually ended up in ROCOR after buying into the "nobody else is as hardcore as us" nonsense. I became very important in the parish very quickly, essentially becoming the main reader despite there being a tonsured reader (although he was rarely present) and lead server.

After about a year in the parish, things got weird. The priest started giving sermons about total obedience to one's parish priest, how its a sin to have fun (quoting a Seraphim Rose sermon about "fun" not existing as a concept in other languages. I'm multilingual and can tell you that is a flat out lie), and he instructed us to tell him our whereabouts every Sunday if we weren't going to be at church and explain why, and he even gave a little mini-sermon after vigil one evening to me and one russian lady about how it's important to show up on time and never be late to vigil, when I was late due to my work schedule, which I had repeatedly informed him of. He also gave another sermon about being personally embarrassed by parishioners not showing up to vigil when there were guests. But it got worse.

In confession, I told him I struggled with depression and have my entire life. I started seeing a therapist at the guidance of my previous confessor, a monk at Holy Cross monastery in West Virginia. Unfortunately my relationship with the Holy Cross hieromonk ended due to his work in the monastery taking up too much of his time and lay confessions becoming a burden, so I started exclusively confessing with my parish priest.
The parish priest made up his own rules about confession, restricting communion for people who confessed within 72 hours of communion, and even my monastic SF told me the rules this parish priest required were made up and not part of the ROCOR general practice. At the advice of my therapist, I started to go and visit my family more often, which meant I was out of town regularly. This was also good because my sister struggles with the same stuff and its been good for both of us to lean on each other. I informed the priest of this, and he initially approved. But after some months, I told him I continued to struggle with depression and suicidal thoughts, but visiting family and therapy had been a big help and I felt like I was making great progress, but sometimes I overindulged in alcohol with my dad (by which I mean drinking 3 alcoholic beverages instead of the absolute maximum of 2, which is what most priests in my experience define as "getting drunk"). He then told me to stop seeing my therapist, because what I was experiencing was "spiritual, not psychological" according to him, and that I needed to cut off all contact with my dad and family, because he said I am "an alcoholic". He also told me about some visitor (not even a parishioner) claiming I was "drinking wildly" on Pascha after I popped a champagne bottle and it began to overflow, so I instinctively put the neck in my mouth so as to not make a mess, and used this as further "evidence" of my "rampant alcoholism". He then instructed that I cut off all contact with my friends, because they say swear words, and that I quit my job so that I don't come to vigil late anymore.

After this insane confession, I immediately knew I wasn't coming back. I served one last time, took communion, and left without a word. I never came back. I started getting texts from other parish priests in town, saying my old priest has been asking about me and trying to find my whereabouts. I got a call from my old SF, who said this guy contacted him trying to find me, and we spoke about it, and I also met with another local priest, both of whom told me I made the right decision to leave that parish. The rocor priest still tries to get in contact with me periodically. I sent a courtesy message to him saying I will not be coming back and then blocked him, but he has tried various social media avenues to contact me. In one, he told me I "didn't need to feel ashamed to come back". The chutzpah. A couple days ago his wife texted me asking me to come back. Its been almost a year.

Anyway, that was my experience. I hope anyone else going through something similar can read this and know you're not alone.
