PhD program, unfunded, new, seeking advice
Hi all. I recently applied to this cycle of clinical psychology PhD programs, and am still waiting to hear back from some programs, but only received two interviews this cycle. It is my first cycle (applied directly after undergrad). I’m expecting rejections from remaining programs at this point due to not hearing back. However, one of the schools I interviewed at (recently received a rejection from the other) is a new clinical psychology PhD program at a well-respected medical school (Baylor College of Medicine). The program is regionally accredited and plans to apply for apa accreditation as early as possible (3rd year of the program). If I were given an offer, I would be in the first cohort of the program. The program is also not fully funded for tuition, but does offer a GRA stipend. given all of this, if I were to receive an offer, it would most likely be my only opportunity to start at a clin psych PhD program this upcoming fall at a great institution with great clinical & research exposure. In addition, the program is prepared for licensure in the state in which the institution is in. However, I know attending non-accredited institutions is discouraged , as well as attending non-fully funded PhDs.. I was wondering if anyone could provide any insight into the likelihood of a new program being accredited (if already regionally accredited and apart of a reputable medical school)? I am likely to have no loans from undergrad, but I would like opinions in terms of any issues that could arise with internship matching/post doc, licensure etc… how likely is it that new programs receive accreditation?
