Ramayana – Day 35: Lava and Kusha — The Princes of the Forest

In the quiet ashram of sage Valmiki, far from the royal life of Ayodhya, Sita gave birth to twin sons — Lava and Kusha.

They grew up not as princes… but as disciples.

Valmiki educated them in:

Vedas and scriptures

Archery and warfare

Music and poetry

Dharma and righteousness

They were brave like their father.

Compassionate like their mother.

Wise beyond their years.

But they did not know they were sons of Rama.

Meanwhile, in Ayodhya, Rama performed the Ashwamedha Yajna — a grand ritual asserting sovereignty. As tradition required, a sacred horse was released to roam freely. Any kingdom that stopped the horse had to fight.

The horse wandered into the forest.

Lava and Kusha stopped it.

They challenged the mighty army of Ayodhya — unaware that they were challenging their own father’s kingdom.

Warriors like Lakshmana, Bharata, and Shatrughna faced the young boys… and were astonished by their strength and skill.

How could two forest-born children defeat royal warriors?

Because they carried royal blood.

And destiny was moving toward revelation.

This is the turning point where: Sons unknowingly stand against their father.

Truth begins to surface.
