Regrowth isn't curly?

I've had a lot of regrowth on my crown and my hairline. Issue is that it's straight. All my old hair on the sides of my head is curly. Is this just part of the regrowth process or am I doomed with the weirdest curl pattern ever? The new hair is also more fine than the rest of my hair but is the same color.
