Opinion on how they handle Mythra in Torna the Golden country.

SpoilerXC2 Torna SPOILERS

2 main things I dislike.

  1. They over regress Mythra's character to start with. I understand what they were going for but that's boring and cheap. If you want to show a soldier broken by his fights collateral damage. so broken that He don't want to listen mentioned of gun. You don't need to make him trigger happy. That's cheap storyline. You can show that soldier was very aware and disciplined. but He had to fight. That fight broke him so much that He is incapable of fight emotionally. That type of impression I have of Mythra. Not a person who need lectures from half the party about not pulling trigger when kid in front.

  2. Inclusion of Milton. Specially his death. I understand they wanted to make casualty personal to Mythra. but doing so they cheapen the character from main game. Mythra turning Pyra is big moment. In storytelling, You don't ruin it by making it personal lose. There is huge difference between sadness for unknown people and known person.

If tsunami kill 10,000 and someone is sad. you get the impression that person is sad because of 10,000 people's death. If same Tsunami had killed 20,000 people, but this time that person's friend is one of the dead. Now impression would be that person is sad because his friend die. Now question arises, If that person's friend have not died. would he be sad? Maybe, or maybe not. Same when Mythra turn into Pyra over dead body of Milton. It turn it from sympathy towards other people to sadness of personal loss.
