Weapon Reskin Mods?
I've HEARD a bunch of people say that having M16s and AKs in the future is realistic, but for me it just is a really hard immersion break for me. Seeing weapons from 200 years ago pop up, I'm fine with that. Seeing weapons from 300 years ago pop up occasionally, I can acknowledge that too. But seeing weapons millennia old - and not simple nonstandard weapons like bows, swords, and spears mind you (of which I am fine with), but standardized, pattern weapons such as machine guns and assault rifles being built in a pattern from millennia ago just doesn't feel right to me. Less time has passed in between the phasing out of the crossbow and the introduction of supersonic missiles than 1947 and the Rimworld era. Yes, the AK might be showing up in conflicts 300 years from now, but we're not looking at 300 years, we are looking at several millennia. Even a typical steamworld or midworld whose technology is capable of making AKs would not be making 1:1 replicas of the primordial AK-47 of ancient Earth fame, especially if it regrew from a tribal or medieval world that had to reinvent firearms from scratch.
All this is a really long winded way to say - are there any mods that redesign your weapons from the ground up to be a bit more sci-fi, or at the very least, not look real? Basically, I'm asking for the opposite of what most gun mods do, and add in a bunch of real world weaponry.
I've recently downloaded the two Dune armor and weapon set mods, and I really like the way they look, because I feel like it fits the Rimworld aesthetic. The Detroit Become Human mod adds a pretty sweet rifle too, though I'm a bit iffy about the English text on the armor. And I'm also looking into some Warhammer 40k mods I feel like might give the unfamiliar future vibe a bit better.
Anyone know anything good? Thank you so much.
