Boomer on a mountain bike

Boomer Story

I spent yesterday and today volunteering on a trail crew to fix and improve our local mountain bike trails. It’s hard work riding up to the job site with tools and digging in the sun all day, but it’s nice to give back a little and make the trails better for everyone.

Most folks when they ride by our crew are very appreciative of our efforts, and some will ask about how they can pitch in and help. There’s no government-funded body that can afford to maintain these trails, so at the moment it’s 100% volunteer maintained.

Today, a boomer (or GenX with boomer vibes) rode by our crew on his e-bike, letting the motor do most of the work, without saying anything. His wife (I assume) rode behind him looking mildly apologetic. After passing me, this guy made some snarky comments at one of the trail crew about how we had ruined the trail and messed everything up. This guy was unloading his entitled opinions on a volunteer that was good enough to take a day off work to help out and make the trails better for everyone. And the trail was badly rutted before we worked on it; the work was badly needed.

I wish for the opportunity to let the guy know that he was partaking in “socialism”, relying on the volunteer work and donations of others instead of paying to ride there.

What an entitled ass. I feel sorry for his wife, being stuck with such a blustery and entitled fool.
