Hello. I’m unsure if what is happening with my snake is a RI or just stressed and being in his first shed.

I got my hognose Donnie last July, he’s about 7-8 months now. He’s been healthy. His enclosure parameters are about 82-85 degrees F during the day and upper 70s at night, and humidity usually between 30-40. He’s in a bioactive so things are kept pretty clean by the clean up crew. I don’t see him a lot, as he tends to be out in the early afternoon and then burrows for the rest of the day, though sometimes he’s out in the evening. Today he was out and I went to look at him, and noticed around his mouth was kinda dirty looking. I picked him

Up (which I haven’t done since he started shedding. For reference I believe he is just starting to come out of blue) and was looking at him, and upon further inspection it seems as though it’s just dirt from his burrowing getting stuck around his mouth, though I didn’t try to wipe it because he seemed a l stressed. The. He opened his mouth and it make a slight click. He only did it twice and then I put him down. And he went back to his area. I watched him slither around, he does not appear lethargic at all, normal energy and no mucus or wheezing sounds. His mouth doesn’t appear deformed at all, he opened his mouth one more time as he was slithering, then stopped and started burrowing for the night as usual. I have a video attached, though I do want to note that the angle and poor quality does make him appear to look worse then he actually does. He is a little skinny because it’s been winter and he’s been on a bit of a food strikes and I haven’t tried to feed him while he’s in shed. But despite appearance of the video he looks pretty normal from being dirty. His mouth is not deformed at all.

Before asking, yes, I called the vet. The closest reptile emergency vet is 6 hours away, and I have been told that they have been turning people away, Ido not have any leave off work right now. There is a reptile vet nearby that my brother is going to try to get him to tomorrow while I’m at work so that’s been addressed. I just want some input because the last group of people I asked told me he was dying immediately. I have had 2 animals die in the past month (a kitten that was given to me ill and my old childhood dog) and I really cannot handle that right now. I just want someone to be rational with me and give me peace of mind because I honestly cannot do more than what I have done right now.

Again: THE VIDEO LOOKS WAY WORSE THAN HE DOES IRL. I am not able to take another right now because he’s burrowed for the night and I do t want to disturb him. Thank you for your input
