Advice for Trans Guys navigating the scene
I see alot of posts on here of other trans guys asking for advice on how to navigate the gay scene in the city, what bars/clubs/parties allow them in, what should they do etc. As a gay trans guy myself that goes out ALOT lol, I wanna set the tone here
NYC is the 2nd gayest city in the U.S. (San Fran takes the 1st, but we're the 2nd lol). Theres tons of trans advocacy groups and legal organizations for trans people in this city, Virtually any LGBTQ+ bar/club you go to will have no issue with you. I've been to alot of gay bars and clubs and yet have an issue, keep in mind I do pass very well I'm a bear cub (not to toot my own horn, just being blunt)
However, that being said. Obviously some places will be a different vibe then others which will affect your experience in them. Exact same thing goes for POC gay clubs vs white gay clubs in a sense.
1 basic rundown is, Manhattan is Gay, Brooklyn is Queer. Manhattan for the most part glitzy, trendy, stereotypical. Brooklyn for the most part is more down-to-earth, family-vibe etc. You get the difference. I've been to clubs in both, both are fabulous its just again, different vibe. If you're like me and you pass well and don't mind being around lots of cis men, go anywhere you want (not that in general you can't go anywhere you want, please don't feel excluded, everyone is invited everywhere). However, if you're early transition/maybe don't pass too well or just in general new to the gay scene clubs like
Rosemont (Brooklyn)
3 Dollar Bill/ 9 Bob Note(Brooklyn)
Cmon Everybody (Brooklyn)
Good Judy (Brooklyn, Technically a Lesbian bars but Queer friendly)
Gingers Bar (Brooklyn, Again Technically a Lesbian bar but Queer friendly)
Metropolitan Bar (Brooklyn)
Are all specifically trans-inclusive and Queer and the vibe maybe more relaxed vs somewhere in Hells Kitchen
The Eagle, The Cock, and Rockbar are the clubs in Manhattan that are also extremely inclusive. The Eagle crowned a Trans guy for Mr. Eagle 2024 so that tells you they're serious about inclusivity (also most kink communities are trans-friendly in general). Rockbar is technically a bear bear but they're very trans-inclusive and body-inclusive as well.
Certain sex parties/events are inclusive as well if you feel like getting nasty lol.
Cmon Everybody has their HRTea sex party once a month (based on the name you can tell its made just for you lol). Virtually all their sex parties are inclusive but this one specifically is for trans people.
The Cock is great for trans guys, again I've been, never had an issue 😊
Bound at Knockdown Center is leitrally a playground for everyone and anyone. Legit it is for anyone that is not cis/het. Thats all I'm gonna say
Inferno and Transferno in Brooklyn apparently are one of the most inclusive sex parties in the city. I haven't been personally but I keep hearing rave reviews on it and other trans guys go there and have an excellent time.
So again, please go to any gay/LGBTQ+ bar you want, no one should feel excluded. Just again, depending on your situation or what you want as a vibe. All the clubs I listed above you for sure will have a good time. Also feel free to DM me if you have any questions on other clubs or parties and going out in general. I understand it maybe daunting at first but again, this city is usually safe for us.
