Do you think this is unfair?

Playing a daily game against someone, 56 moves in and they only have one move available to make, then only one move for me and it's checkmate. First somehow with less than an hour to go, the clock changes to an additional 4 hours. Then right before that ends, they go into vacation mode. but they played other games. not to mention they went up like 250+ in elo in one day.

How can I get this to end without resigning? There should be better rules for vacationing too.
