What is going on with matchmaking?

Late last season and earlier this season I did some experimenting in comp, which cost me a little over a full rank (6 divisions total), and that's ok - I knew it was possible and learned quite a bit. Happy I did it and it was nice to do something different.

However now, climbing back up is a nightmare grind. Nearly every single team I am on has one player who's a complete dud in the match for whatever reason and you can see it clear as day. Somehow though, that only very rarely happens for the enemy team; that inept guy who has never practiced OW on something more modern than a spinning jenny is on my team on a 4 or 5 to 1 ratio.

Like I get there's a big influx of new and returning players because of all the new content, which is great, but that can't be the explanation for this disparity. Please give those guys to the other team at least somewhat resembling equally.
