Mixing very different styles of music?
My fiance and I recently started talking about music for our wedding. We quickly agreed on most of it, however, we are unsure how to approach the dancefloor music.
We come from different cultural backgrounds and while we are both not deep in our respective cultures, many familymembers are and they would be excited to dance to the respective folk music and music in their native language. The style of music is just very different from eachother and we of course also want to play dance music that we enjoy and our friends and younger guests enjoy more.
How should we go about it? Do we alternate songs (like 5-5-5 or something), or do we alternate by hour (or half hour), do we start with the two types of folk and switch to party later in the evening?
We are a bit worried since dancing is a big part of his culture but I know my family is a bit more reserved, that if our only plan is "going by vibe", his familys preference will just take over the night (especially since his familymenbers are way more likely to try and bribe the DJ or voice their complaints about "not getting enough music to dance to" or how they "can't dance to anything else").
How did you go about it and how did it work out?
