Started a new job.. got another offer days later now I’m torn
Hi everyone, I’m living in aus, and I’d really appreciate advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation.
So I’m in a really tough spot right now. I recently graduated in electrical engineering and, after sending countless applications, I finally landed an electrical drafting role at a power-related manufacturing company. Even though my title is “drafter,” I’m also coordinating product delivery and getting solid hands-on exposure seeing how systems are actually built on the factory floor.
The problem is that just after starting this job, I received an offer for a Graduate Electrical Engineer position at a marine engineering consultancy on the other side of the country. They work on defence projects and ship design, the pay is higher, and the company has a strong reputation.
I’m honestly unsure what to do. I’ve never lived away from family before, but I would consider relocating if this new role is genuinely better long term. At the same time it seems daunting to live completely by myself without my support network. In my current job, there might be growth into engineering if I prove myself, but I don’t know how guaranteed that path is. The people I work with now are really nice, so I also feel pressure about leaving.
Has anyone here faced a similar decision between staying in a comfortable hands-on role vs relocating for a graduate engineering opportunity? Any advice would really help.
