Vib Ribbon's track generation is most likely based on the music's tempo and "percussion"
I've been thinking about Caddicarus's comment about the game reacting better to pop music and and a video showcasing a Michael Jackson album being on beat perfectly, so I got experimenting with some albums I had. Most notably Can Kiriklari from Sebnem Ferah (I know that I spelled that wrong but I can't do the non-dotted i), a Turkish metal album that gets a little experimental with drums and synths, and Dreamland by Black Box. Diva Pop album ala RuPaul what can I say? also containing lots of experimental drums.
the hardest track in the metal album? the slow ballad "Hoşçakal". there are some drums, but it's mostly Piano. and everything was extremely Out of rhythm as if the game didn't know what to do. number two was "Ben Bir Mülteciyim (Güç)", a song with a LOT OF DRUMS AS SOON AS YOU HEAR IT, But it's also very slow as it's more of a blood boil rage.
the hardest track in the Diva Pop album? A track that I actually expected would be the hardest in the album, Hold On, With lots of drums, organs, pianos and various miscellaneous instruments. It was on beat and it was very difficult.
