Where is the Darklord Storyline Currently at?
My understanding, based on this, this, and various card artworks is this:
-
In the distant past, a Lucifer-like figure tried to incite a rebellion against God
-
These rebels would fail in their efforts and were banished from paradise. They became known as "Darklords".
-
The leader of this rebellion, the Lucifer-like figure, became known as Darklord Morningstar.
-
Some time later, a maiden that serves God in paradise began dabbling in forbidden relics that she shouldn't. This storyline is covered here and here.
-
She becomes the Condemned Darklord, and the two other maidens who once served God alongside her became Darklords as well: Indulged Darklord and Capricious Darklord.
-
The Condemned Darklord had begun stealing the power of the other Darklords and Darklord Morningstar had begun taking what's left of the Darklords drained of power by the Condemned Darklord. The official source implies a rivalry or cold war had erupted between the Condemned Darklord and the First Darklord (Darklord Morningstar).
-
As for how the Condemned Darklord is gaining power over the other Darklords, I believe it is implied she is using the power of the Forbidden Chalice that she stole from paradise. There is a sub-plot where Darklord Nasten approached the stairway to paradise to make contact. He appears to have sought forgiveness and was once again sanctified by God. However, Darklord Nasten would be captured by the Condemned Darklord, who subdued Nasten and used the power of a corrupted form of the Forbidden Chalice to curse him.
-
With the new support, we see two new Darklords: Darklord Gulgolet and Darklord Djehuty. What's notable is that they posess the Forbidden Lance and the Forbidden Scripture, respectively. They relics were stolen or at least wrongly accessed by the Condemned Darklord in her past life as a maiden of paradise. I'm guessing these two Darklords actually serve the Condemned Darklord?
-
The current cliffhanger is with regards to the Condemned Darklord and the First Darklord entering open conflict. Darklord Morningstar now sports a crown of thorns and is known as Darklord Eveningstar (such a cool and edgy name).
My first thought is that the Condemned Darklord had defeated him and was there to steal his crown. However, Morningstar has never possessed any crown before. Also, the Forbidden Crown's card effect is such that you can target your own cards and your opponent's cards. Darklord Eveningstar appears to have an effect that it derives from the Forbidden Crown, in that it cannot be targeted by card effects. He is also missing a lot of his effects from the First Darklord card. In other words, I think what we see in the Forbidden Crown artwork is actually the Condemned Darklord placing the Forbidden Crown upon the First Darklord's head, weakening him (he is visibly struggling) and making him Darklord Eveningstar.
This is a bit of a cliffhanger, as I don't really know what the Condemned Darklord's plan is from here. We can guess how it ends though. The Solemn God's effects are always counter-traps, and basically every quick-play spell that the Condemned Darklord tries to throw at him will always be one speed level slower.
Did I miss anything here or did I misinterpret anything perhaps?
