Henna didn’t penetrate hair

I’m a natural redhead who tried Henna for the first time to cover some grays. I got a few suggestions and decided to try Henna Sooq’s ginger blonde. I first tried a patch but it didn’t seem to cover anything. I washed my hair and tried again with clean dry hair but it still didn’t seem to cover my grays. Any suggestions?
