Is this an ego thing? or has to do with trust?

Relationship

My (F25) bf (M25) told me, “Why are you so scared to take risks with me?” talking about sex particularly calendar method and I honestly don’t get it.

Recently startded my pill and I’m just trying to be responsible about birth control. I don’t want to rely on the calendar method because I know it’s not the most reliable, and I don’t want to deal with an unplanned pregnancy. To me, that’s just common sense. I’m not saying I don’t trust him I just don’t want to take unnecessary risks with something that could change my life.

But the way he said it made it sound like: Being cautious/not taking risk = not trusting him

For context, before him, I had a few flings where we didn’t use condoms, but I made sure they didn’t finish inside me. So now I’m wondering if he’s comparing that and thinking I was more “risky” before than I am with him.

Is he equating risk with love or trust? Am I missing something here? Would appreciate advice.
