DeNA refuses to address the issues that have plagued the game since Genetic Apex.
As a Day 1 player, I think I'm gonna take a break at the very least.
I realise I'm one of many whining about the new set - fine. Add this post to the pile; at least it's visible feedback. That said, unlike a lot of other posts here I don't care about (or for) the recycled art. I do think the playerbase deserves better than that, but it's a non-issue for me either way. I haven't been a TCG player since Base Set, and whilst the nostalgia hit of the base set card artwork was nice, I don't have an opinion on art I've not seen before.
I'm more upset that this set:
- Has another Iono and Penny. This isn't Deluxe EX. Why do we have these again? And why couldn't we have had something new instead?
- Is one of several sets that neglects dragons entirely. Not a single dragon type card. I get that this is a mini-set and there are only so many dragon type pokemon out there, but if we can have eleventy-billion Pikachus we can have a third Dratini line.
- Continues DeNA's dogged trend of leaving dual energy typing out in the cold with a distinct lack of support, even though we've had cards in this set and last set that function around using multiple energy types.
I stopped playing ranked towards the end of A-series because I just got so tired of battling the same three or four meta decks each month - and some of those decks haven't changed in multiple sets. Random solo battles helped keep battling fresh, but with this new set not really offering anything particularly exciting competitively (except maybe Gholdengo EX?) I'm not sure I want to bother.
I've seen DeNA struggle with player retention, even I'm questioning why I continue playing. It feels very unrewarding to play now, and I'm giving up on waiting for DeNA to address the issues that have plagued it since Genetic Apex.
I've no desire to complete this lacklustre set, and whilst I won't be uninstalling the app, I don't think I'm going to engage with it again until we get something for dragons. I'm tired of waiting and "maybe next set".
