Mother & Daughter Dance Even If Dad Is Alive?

Program/Timeline

Hi everyone, I need some perspective.

I’m getting married soon and I’m planning to do a mother and daughter dance. My dad is still alive, but we’re not very close for a lot of personal reasons. There’s no big dramatic fallout, we just don’t have that type of relationship where a father-daughter dance would feel genuine.

I really want to honor my mom because she’s been my rock through everything. She’s the one who showed up consistently, supported me, and basically carried so much of my life on her shoulders.

Here’s where I’m unsure:

I’m thinking of starting with just me and my mom dancing. Then after a bit, I’d have the emcee invite my sisters to join us. After a few moments, invite my dad to come in. Then later, have my step-siblings join too so it becomes more of a full family moment rather than something that feels like I’m excluding anyone.

My intention isn’t to embarrass my dad. I just don’t feel authentic doing a traditional father-daughter dance, but I also don’t want to create unnecessary drama.

Has anyone done something similar? Do you think this flows naturally or does it feel awkward or forced? Be honest lol.

Would love your thoughts.
