Can the story of Death Note be finished by watching only the anime and ignoring the movies?

I'm writing this using Google Translate, so there might be some errors, sorry. I haven't watched Death Note, and I don't have time to finish both the movie and the anime. If I only watch the anime, will I have seen the whole story? I hope I've explained it clearly.
