Goldeneye Ghost
I recently bought this old windows 10 PC from a goodwill, and I found this weird document about a cursed Goldeneye game. I read it and thought it was really creepy. I don't know if its real or not but it does make me think.

To the reader who is reading this, I’m probably not well anymore. I don’t mean I am sick or have injury or anything like that, I’m mentally not okay. This story I wrote means nothing to me anymore and I don’t care if this gets deleted or corrupted. Let it burn in hell along with me.
Aiden said he would be here in 5 minutes. It was enough time for me to get my room a bit clean since it’s always a bit messy. As I was cleaning my closet, I found an old dusty Nintendo 64. I had no idea what a Nintendo 64 would be doing in my closet, until I remembered my dad got me this for Christmas to play some of his favorite games with me. I got pretty excited knowing that I just again found one of the best gaming consoles in history. I immediately plugged in the power and composite cables, you know the yellow, white, and red ones. It’s been a while since I plugged these in, because I now just play on the PS4 and Xbox One.
After I got everything hooked up, I turned on the console. But I realized I got too ahead of myself and forgot I don’t even have any games to play this with. I was disappointed, because I looked through that closet pretty damn well and didn’t see anything Nintendo 64 related. As I went to turn it off, the console sort of tilted to the right. I thought that was kinda weird, so I looked under the console and found a copy of Goldeneye taped downward. I was confused why there would be a Nintendo 64 game taped under it instead of it being stored somewhere. I didn’t really care though, I’m just glad I found something to play. I took a look at the game and remembered this isn’t any basic Nintendo 64 game.
This was the real deal back then. Goldeneye was a major hit when it was released in 1997. One reason it was phenomenal was because of the multiplayer mode you could play with your friends. I remember when I played this with my dad and sucked ass, but my dad would sometimes die purposely to make me feel a bit better.
I put the game into the cartridge slot and turned on the game. I was expecting the game to not run and having to do the old blowing into the cartridge trick. But to my surprise it worked, I saw the screen with all of the studios and copyright crap. Then, I saw that big shiny silver Nintendo logo spinning while that thrilling heartbeat action music played in the background. Next I saw those white dots going across the screen right as the music changed to that classic epic action theme. I got chills, I haven’t heard that sound in a long while. I finally saw the old James Bond model walking across the screen at the center of the black and white spiral thingy.
When he fired his gun I was expecting blood to be trickling over the screen, but no. The screen went black, that was weird, I thought maybe the game just crashed. That was until I noticed the red light was still on. Possibly the game just bugged out since it was dirty and hasn’t been played in what I’m guessing a decade. So I turned it back on and waited for James Bond to shoot again, this time it was normal. I was relieved because It would’ve sucked if it didn’t work anymore. The title screen booted up and I felt a wave of nostalgia. I remember listening to this while my dad and I were setting up everything for like 15 minutes.
Apparently I got so distracted with Goldeneye that I didn’t even realize Aiden arrived at my house. After he came in to say hi he asked what I was playing. I was surprised he didn’t know what Goldeneye for the Nintendo 64 was. Of course he knew what the Nintendo 64 was but not knowing what Goldeneye is feels like a crime. But I wasn’t just gonna make fun of him for it since he was four years younger than me, so I told him about it. Aiden asked if he could play multiplayer with me, and I said of course. We were gonna play Call of Duty: Ghosts at first, but we play it almost every day so it wouldn’t hurt to play something else. Aiden was puzzled at how to use the Nintendo 64 controller, which is understandable since it does have a weird design.
After we set up a few of the settings, we were deciding on which map to select. We decided to do a temple since it was the most recognizable and popular map. After we put all of the settings to our liking, we started. But for some reason, the game restarted. It didn’t freeze or crash, it just restarted. Which is something that has never happened to me in any game even outside the Nintendo 64. We thought it was weird, but just ignored it as a bug. The weird thing is, we tried the temple again and it did the same exact thing. This wasn’t a bug, something is preventing us from accessing the temple. I thought that sucked because I loved that map. I figured we should just find a different map. I remember me and my dad used to always play on this one map when the temple would get boring. After a bit of thinking I remembered that we used to play library. So of course we tried the library, but we were expecting it to not work. But to our surprise, it loaded in. I was super excited to get to play this treasure of a game again.
After running around for a little bit trying to find my cousin, I noticed a few things that seemed off to me. First of all, there was no music, like zero background music playing. I never thought playing Goldeneye without the music would be eerie. Another thing is there were no weapons, armor, or ammo boxes anywhere. You couldn’t even slap/karate chop somebody, just an empty inventory. Lastly, the map was foggy, not a lot of fog but it was enough to make me feel uncomfortable. If you went into one big room, that is the most you can see until the fog consumes everything. Basically, you could only see roughly about 35 feet, anything past that is just thick fog. While we were trying to find ammo boxes or anything on the ground we accidentally found each other. We were both confused at what was going on. I even tried pausing the game to see if there was any music. But still nothing. I thought this game was maybe a rom hack or corrupted somehow, so I decided to turn it off. But, the game never shut off. It was somehow still playable. It got to the point where we were getting creeped out.
I was going to unplug the power cord, but then at the same time we both saw something off. The radar showed 3 dots, even though we were the only ones playing. But the scariest part, across the fog, we saw a black figure of what looked to be James Bond’s model run away after watching us. That was enough to make us jump, even yell a little bit. Now we were scared out of our fucking minds. I tried to rip the cartridge out of the console, but it wouldn’t come out like it was glued onto it. Aiden tried to unplug the power cord but it wouldn’t come out either. We didn’t know what to do, except exploring whatever the hell was happening. We looked around for a while, but found nothing. While we were walking we lost each other again. I was getting paranoid and so was Aiden. Then we saw it again, a third dot. It was close to me this time. I looked around some more and saw it staring at me until running down a ramp. I was trying to tell Aiden why he wasn’t coming to me until I saw that the radar was gone. I was pretty scared because I didn’t want to go down there alone, but I felt like if I didn’t something would happen.
So I went down this long staircase, and I noticed all of the sudden I was in the basement map. I was pretty sure this wasn’t in the original game. I searched around and found nothing. I tried to go back but there was a locked gate preventing me from exiting. I heard an unsettling pixelated groaning sound of what sounded like somebody dying. I looked behind and saw it down a long hallway slowly coming toward me while I couldn’t move. I covered my eyes right as it came close to me. When I peeked, it was gone. And there was another staircase going far, far down. I didn’t want to progress anymore, but I knew there was no other way to go. I was getting so scared I forgot my cousin was even here. I told him if he saw that, but he denied seeing anything and told me my screen showed me running around the basement normally. I was confused at how he’s seeing that, because I’m clearly not in a normal map. I told him to stop joking, but he was really trying to tell me he’s seeing something different. I told him what I was seeing and he just thought I was trying to scare him more. I insisted I was telling the truth, but just ignored it since he wasn’t buying it.
When I turned back to the screen, I had already reached the bottom of the stairs. I was in that one area in the basement with a line of small concrete pillars, except it was all reddish and covered in a thick black fog. This was enough to make me freeze and not move. I saw the remote to turn off the TV on my desk, but I was too frightened to get up. All of a sudden, I couldn’t move in the game, and I saw the black figure again. It was slowly getting closer to me. The closer it was getting, the more I could hear loud screams of a woman that sounded so realistic it made me disturbed, with reversed music and static. When it got close enough I could see a pale white face with a torn off jaw. Then it stopped moving completely, it was staring at me for what felt like a long minute. I didn’t know what to do because I knew my cousin couldn’t see anything I’m seeing.
At least that is what I thought, because out of nowhere my cousin yelled out “ OH MY GOD WHAT IS THAT THING!” I looked over to his screen and I noticed he somehow entered where I was. I was trying to tell him how he can see what I’m seeing all of the sudden. Before he could say anything, his character was getting pulled toward the black figure. I looked over to him, and saw something that to this day still scars me for life. I looked at his eyes, and they were pitch black. I screamed from the shock of his eyeballs changing. I was trying to shake him and get him to snap out of whatever was happening to him. But he just kept staring at the screen with the same blank look on his face. I looked at the screen and saw the black figure smiling at me as it was carrying him closer to the fog. I looked over again and saw black liquid running down his eyes. It seemed as the closer he got to the fog, the more liquid would come out of his eyes. I didn’t know what to do anymore, I was going insane.
I looked to the screen and noticed it was now dragging me towards it. I felt my eyes getting wet, whatever it was doing to Aiden was doing to me now. I tried doing everything, moving, shaking the controller, closing my eyes, turning the console off and on, everything. I even tried to turn the TV off with the remote but even that wouldn’t work. My vision was going black, I knew soon I would see nothing but darkness. I knew there was nothing I could do and just accepted my fate.
That was until I heard that familiar sound, the sound of picking up a weapon. I thought maybe if I shoot this thing, It would go away. I tried looking for the controller as hard as I could while having barely any eyesight. I felt the wire of what I was hoping was my controller. I looked up to the TV with the last bit of eyesight I had left, and saw something horrifying. I saw the same black liquid coming out of the edges of my tv, coming out of the console, and the bottom of the cartridge. I was almost about to touch the black figure. I also saw I was holding a PP7 silent. I didn’t know if this was going to work for sure, but what else was I going to do. When I pushed the R trigger against my slippery fingers, I shot but realised the thing was teleported everywhere fast. Now I couldn’t see anything. I thought this was impossible but knew I shouldn’t give up. My dad told me to never give up in a life or death situation. What he was saying is even when the odds are extreme, push those odds as far as you can until you can’t anymore. I promised him I would when that time would come. So I felt determined to kill this fucking monster. I knew I couldn’t use sight, but I could use my hearing. I realised the thing gets quieter and louder constantly. My plan was to shoot the gun right as it got loud, which is almost impossible to time perfectly. I was starting to feel drowsy and weak, I started puking the same black liquid. Right as I was about to fade, I pushed the trigger. And slumped to the ground feeling relieved that I fulfilled a promise.
As I was going to pass out, I heard a loud ear piercing screech. I got up and thought I shot the mother fucker. I picked up the controller, and smashed the TV and console without stopping. I heard the thing screaming in agonizing pain as I butchered the fuckers soul. I gave it one final smash to the console, and I passed out.
I thought I was dead, but I was happy because I sent that bitch back to hell where it came from. All of the sudden I jumped from the ground and opened my eyes, I could see again. I was so glad that the nightmare was over. The Nintendo 64 was wrecked and the TV screen was smashed to bits. I took one look at the cartridge and ripped the thing out. I was going to break it, but I remembered about my cousin. I looked around but couldn’t find him, I searched everywhere for what felt like an hour but was really 5 minutes. I soon gave up on searching, and came to the devastating realization that Aiden didn’t make it. He didn’t go to the afterlife or anything. I believe that his soul is trapped in the cartridge, and he’ll never be able to come out of that cartridge again.
That’s it, that’s what has happened to me. I can never forgive myself for putting my cousin into this. I hope he can forgive me, wherever he is. I still have the cartridge, it’s locked away somewhere safe where nobody can find it. I can’t live my life anymore knowing that Aiden might not be able to ever again. But, I won’t give up. I will keep my promise from my father. I don’t care what it takes, to bring a soul back to this world out of hell. And I won’t stop until I can find a way to free this lost soul. Well, this note has gone on long enough, I think this is a good place to end it. This document has helped me build some hope, and I’ll never be the same without it.
