Can I force 3.7GHz on all cores on an i5-2500 (non-K) with an H61 board?
Hey guys,
I’m running an Intel Core i5-2500 on an H61 motherboard. As you know, it boosts to 3.7GHz on single-core load, but only 3.4GHz when all 4 cores are active.
What I’m trying to do is not traditional overclocking — I don’t want to go beyond 3.7GHz. I just want to know if it’s possible to make all cores run at 3.7ghz, the max turbo bin (37x) instead of dropping to 34x under full load.
I understand K-series chips like the Intel Core i5-2500K allow multiplier overclocking, but since my CPU already supports 37x for single-core turbo, is there any way to sync all cores to that multiplier?
Some questions:
Is this possible on H61 at all?
Would BIOS modding help?
Is there any workaround like old BIOS versions, microcode rollback, or turbo ratio tweaks?
Or is this completely locked by the chipset + CPU combo?
I know the performance gain would be small (~5–8%), but I’m mostly doing this out of desperation, upgrading platforms isn't an option for me right now since moving to DDR4/DDR5 would mean replacing the motherboard, CPU, and RAM, which is too expensive where I live
Would appreciate insight from anyone who’s tried this on Sandy Bridge non-K chips.
