Need honest advice on B-school profile

Admissions

Hey all,

I’m planning to apply for 1-year or 2-year full-time MBA programs for the 2027 intake. My primary motivation is to break out of a purely technical Software Development role and pivot into higher-impact, and analytical roles.

I would genuinely appreciate some candid feedback on my profile, target scores, and whether the ROI makes sense given my current role and pay.

Academics & Education, Work Ex (~4YOE by 2027)

  • B.Tech in Civil Engineering from a Tier 1 engineering college.
  • Domain: Software Development at a large NBFC.
  • Current Role: Software Developer.
  • Current CTC: 26–29 LPA.

Extracurriculars & Leadership

  • Held core leadership positions in major cultural student organizations during undergrad.
  • Represented my college at the Inter-IIT Sports Meet.
  • Participated in multiple marathons.
  • ABRSM Level 1 certification in a musical instrument.

Target Schools (2027 Intake)

Europe

  • INSEAD
  • HEC Paris
  • London Business School
  • IESE Business School

USA

  • M7 schools (including Wharton School, Kellogg School of Management, Chicago Booth, Columbia Business School)
  • MIT Sloan School of Management
  • UC Berkeley Haas School of Business

India (1-Year Programs)

  • Indian School of Business (PGP)
  • IIM Ahmedabad (PGPX)
  • IIM Bangalore (EPGP)
  • IIM Calcutta (MBAEx)

Questions:

1. GMAT Target
What GMAT FE score should I realistically aim for to comfortably secure interview invites from these programs?

2. Post-MBA Placements
How does a Software Development background fare during placements at these schools? Is it a relatively smooth pivot into:

  • General Management
  • Consulting (Strategy/Tech)
  • Product Management
  • HR roles

3. ROI & Opportunity Cost
Given my current compensation (~26–29 LPA), does a MBA from these target schools make financial sense?

Would really appreciate honest perspectives and reality checks.
