I have a bunch of fish pictures from when I was guiding in the Middle East 🇴🇲

I want to share some of my better ones and provide some info on the fish for anyone interested. I have censored the angler’s face; but I would appreciate any photography feedback or questions related to fishing. There are more fish pictures on my IG (alta\_aqua) for anyone who uses that.

This is a Maori Sea perch (MSP), also called a blubberlips snapper or speckled snapper depending on where you are. Its scientific name is Lutjanus Rivulatus.

They exist from the east coast of Africa to the Red Sea, and all the way across the Indian Ocean to Australia. They are a reef species and currently listed as least concern.

While not a rare fish species they are a somewhat uncommon catch. And are often celebrated when they are caught because of that.

The pictured fish would be considered a trophy by most anglers familiar with the species. It was caught on a sinking stickbait while casting for giant trevally. This one was caught immediately after I netted a similar specimen for another client.

Having two caught so close together was highly unusual in our area.

These were caught in late March which is not normally considered to be breeding season for these in the northern hemisphere. So I am not sure if this almost double up was simply a fluke or not.
