[Recommendation request] Looking for one humble watch to be happy with for life

I'm looking for my "one true" watch, but I don't feel comfortable wearing an expensive watch every day, since it is going to be beaten up over the years. I'm also leaning towards quartz, since I like the absolute reliability it provides. I stress too much with an automatic that it will break or is it actually showing the correct time. It would need to have at least 100m of water resistance and preferably a steel case. Sapphire crystal is preferred, but if all else matches then mineral/acrylic could do as well. No platings since they will not look good after years of wear. No matter whether it's swiss or japanese.

Recommendations? I think absolute max budget would be around 500€ new or second hand, but of course, the cheaper the better.
