hearing door opening?

hey I live in an apartment where I can hear the people above me walking as if they were in the same room as me. a few minutes ago I heard a door creak open extremely loudly and someone messing with pots and pans. I'm honestly terrified that someone is in my place but I havent heard anything since and if they are here they haven't moved, as my floors are very loud. is it possible to hear these sounds from an upstairs neighbor? I havent ever heard talking from them but I think they may live alone
